INTERNET ACCESS

If you're looking for internet access during your visit:

  • The WIFI we use is called a Hot Spot and it only works in Italy. You buy the device from the very orange communications store in the left side of the COOP mall. The device is about 100 euros but you refill it with a 25 euro SIM card that gives you WIFI for 30 days (unlimited devices although fewer devices makes for faster speeds). You need your passport to purchase the sim card, and they will make a copy of it for their files.

The Hot Spot resets every day and sometimes needs to be powered off and restarted in the mornings. Due to the density of the walls at Montemigiano, the WIFI will only work outside or near windows. There are also certain times of day where the valley experiences higher volumes of online activity when everything slows down (10am, 2pm). Evenings are lightening fast.

  • Another option is a mobile hot spot like Cellular Abroad or TEP Wireless. They both support up to five devices at a time and the speed is 3G or faster. You rent it in advance and it's mailed to you at your address in the U.S. one to three days before your trip. You mail it back in the envelope provided after you return from your trip. They're about the same price ($9.95/day), but TEP Wireless gets better reviews.

  • There is also free WIFI in the main Piazza in Umbertide.
